Also known as Surgut North Airport, Surgut Airport is to be found 10 kilometers north of Surgut, located in the Khanty – Mansi autonomous Okrug in Russia. The size of the airport is rather mediocre; it is not relatively huge but tactically constructed, nonetheless. The size, however, has no impact on the effortless operations carried out at the airport, and with that the airport has handled as many as 1,013,179 passengers in the year 2008 alone.

As a city in Russia, Surgut shares a location near the Ob River, a junction adjacent to the Irtysh River. There is an interesting history attached to the city’s name ‘Surgut; according to traditions the word is a collection of two words: Sur and Gut, where ‘sur’ means fish and ‘gut’ means hole. The city is moderately populated with only 306,675 inhabitants (Census of the year 2010).
