In 1993, the New Hiroshima opened up as a public airport after it replaced Hiroshima Airport, and was thereafter renamed Hiroshima Nishi Airport. Although the old airport was located in a much closer to the city location, but due to its small size and thus the inability to handle wide body aircrafts, it had to be replaced.
Hiroshima Airport is located some 50 kilometers (30 mi) eastwards of the largest city, Hiroshima, in the Chugoku region situated in Japan.
Getting into the city
The 50 kilometer distance from Hiroshima Airport to the city can be best covered with the comfort of a rented car. To travel from your accommodations to your intended places, can also be best done with the freedom a rent a car provides. There are numerous car rental companies lined about the airport and many significant places around the city, so you can easily book on the go. And if you’re the one who likes having things done before hand, then you can hire a car over the phone or the net. Through the many vehicle choices you are given, you can not only customize your ride according to your needs, but also take advantage of the many deals these companies offer, varying from season to season.
Places that must be explored
We all have heard the name Hiroshima. In our history books or in the news, it was here in 1946 that they suffered from two back to back atomic bombs. So ultimately, the top places to visit, here are the ones that reflect us with a moving reminder of all that is gone. Here are a few places that do so:
- Hiroshima National Peace Memorial Hall - A tribute to the atomic bomb fatalities.
- Peace Memorial Park
- The Cenotaph - A monument with the names of people who died.
- Atomic Bomb Dome - The building that is ‘preserved for perpetuity’. Represents a building still standing, tarnished, however, as a result of the bombings.
- Peace Memorial Museum
Apart from that, the city can also do well to entertain you.
Oh boy, the list here is never ending. It is safe to assume that Hiroshima will not only be a place where you’ll find tons of fun stuff to see and do, but a place that will most possibly move your heart.
