The public transport system in TH is not that up to the required standards and hiring a taxi every time will be pretty expensive; thus car rental being the best option.
What to look out for when hiring a car

There are companies that offer you a very affordable inviting charge which you agree to gladly only for hidden charges to come up later on. Some have faulty cars in their collection and if you get the terrible lack of hiring one of these automobile, you will find yourself stuck in the middle of the road at 10 pm in the night, with no road assistance option and smoke billowing from the bonnet of your car.
To avoid such incidences, it is prudent to carefully vet the companies before deciding on that which you would like to hire from; and when you do, go for ones with a good reputation as per from previous clients’ testimonials. Generally the roads are in good condition, well marked and with good signage in Thai as well as in English; driving is on the Left hand side of the road and besides, the locals are very friendly. If you get lost along the way, just ask for direction from one of the town folk.
