Being one of the oldest airports in Poland, Poznan Airport has been in operation since 1913 and is still functioning to full capacity to date. If you think this is a marvel, wait till you hear more: the airport in split into 2: the Northern and Southern parts. Since inception, the northern side was used by the military whereas the southern side was for use by civilians. Fancy having such a plan; makes you wonder why they didn’t just separate the two; but it’s been working just fine since the 1913. Another interesting fun fact about this airport is that its flight path is directly over the city; this has been an area of contention for many years but no solution has been arrived at yet.
Precaution is advised when you hire a car in Poznan
Before getting a car rental in Poznan, there are a couple of things to know about driving here. For starters, the rate of car theft is very high and as a result, it would be advisable to get theft protection cover along with your rental car. Another precautionary measure would be that you do not leave valuables in the car in a place where they can easily be seen from the outside as this will attract thieves who will in turn break in. also, whenever you are not in your car, do not let the car keys in the car or dangling in the ignition. The car theft issue is one that the council has been trying to deal with for a long time but to no avail.
Another thing is that, just like in most parts of Europe, one should always drive with the headlights on al all times; day and night and even during summer months. Kids below the age of 12 are never allowed to drive in the front seat and drunken driving is prohibited with on-spot fines being applied if you are found in violation of any rule. On the upside, however, there are many 24-hour petrol stations in operations and so you hardly run a risk of being stranded in the middle of the road in the night in case your car breaks down.
Hop into your car and drive to the Imperial Castle; a fairly young castle built in 1905 and was once Hitler’s official home but the man himself never really set foot here. The Fort VII, one used as a NAZI concentration camp in another point of interest but if you do not feel like any war reminders, head to the peaceful Lake Malata or the Cathedral Island; from where Poznan was built.
