Lanzarote Airport is located in San Bartolomé of Las Palmas which is around 5 kilometres from the town of Arrecife that’s why it is also known as the Arrecife airport. It caters to the passenger traffic of island of Lanzarote situated in Canary Islands. Initially the need for this airport was due to refuelling need of long distance flights through the area and for connecting islands to other mainland areas. But now, with modernization and extension projects, it is providing services to almost all the major airlines of the world. At present, it is considered to be one of the busiest airports of Spain and rank 10th in term of the passenger traffic. Most of the traffic of the airport comes from the European Union countries and almost 70% of the international traffic is for UK and Germany.

Amenities and Facilities

There is provision for most of amenities for passengers travelling through the airport. Money exchange facility and ATM are installed at both of the terminals. Civil guards are appointed at various places for safety and security of the passengers. Information services are available at various terminals to guide new travellers about nearest hotels, transportation, city guide and other vital details as regard to important places of the city.

All terminals are well equipped with Medical First Aid Facility to meet any emergent needs. The lost and found department helps passengers to reclaim their valuables left behind in the airport. Also, exhibition hall and executive lounges are available at terminals to make the staying arrangements comfortable for the passengers. To preserve the history of the airport, the old terminal airport was converted in aviation museum which serves as a heritage place for island’s aviation history with lots of audio visual documentaries in it.

Car Hire facilities are available at exit point of terminals and you can book a taxi on instant basis. Car hire is available for one way transfers to Hotels or ports and even hired according to the needs of the passengers. It is better to use the pre-book facility over the internet to book car hire, which is available at least 24 hours before such requirement. Though the pre-book charges may seems to be bit on higher side but the preferential service is given to customers. It is also recommended to travellers to confirm with the cab driver about the possible charges that can be chargeable extra such as the luggage, parking or accessory charges etc.
