- The Avaldsnes Church - one thing to love about this church is its ideal location on a hill revealing its gothic architecture to the rest of the world. Even more interesting is the stone close to the northern wall which is nicknamed Mary’s needle and it is said the final Day of Judgment will happen when the stone and wall come into contact. It’s only a 10minutes drive from the city to this Church.
- The Town of Vaga - it’s good you have a car rental because you only need to drive a few miles south of the city to the town of Vaga. This was once a lively town back in history but today only a few houses are located. It is home to the earliest inhabitants of Norway and you will get quite some interesting tales as you interact with the locals.
- Krosshaug - this is a hill that is said to have a cross or Kross on it. This supposed cross dates back 1000 years, which makes the landmark one of the oldest points in the city.
- The Viking Center - you have heard about Vikings in books and Television all your life, travelling down to Avaldsnes will give you firsthand experience of the Viking history and life. All the ancient kings that have lived in Norway exercised their rule from this town.
