Once upon a time a great war was fought around the Recife area of Brazil which was never forgotten since. In the same area where the battle occurred, an airstrip was constructed and named Guararapes after the battle. Later on it was named as Recife airport or Guararapes-Gilberto Freyre International airstrip.
Even on arrival at Recife airport you will still be stepping into a great tourist attraction in Brazil. As you pack your bags in your car rental from the airport, you can also be a bit curious and get a brief history about the area before setting off to discover more other tourist spots.
Local Attractions
Of the many Brazilian towns, this one has managed to create new attractions while still maintaining the traditional ones to date. Stepping into the town from the airport you are immediately surrounded by a rich culture preserved and pass down through the years. As many tourists who have been to this town would tell you, Recife is where old and new meet and blends perfectly.
- Boa Viagem - the beach area is one of the finest areas to spend while in town. The Boa Viagem beach is famed for not only its cool and crystal looking beach waters, it is also a hub for restaurants and nightclubs where tourists can enjoy themselves.
- Museo do Homen do Nordoste - this museum is voted as the best in the entire province. When you can spare some time, drive your car rental over to this museum and view some of the interesting anthropological displays as well as some cool modern paintings from great Brazilian artists.
- Carnival - you have to wait till this festive season is on so you can fly down to Brazil. Carnival is the greatest festival in town and just the rehearsals themselves are enough to raise your excitement. The famous dance is the Frevo which comes out with so much energy and engages both dancers and onlookers.
- Recife Shopping Center - this is where all your shopping needs are met while in town. There are thousands of high end shopping stalls, souvenir shops. It is also a nice place to hang out and meet a few locals or watch how frenzied the market gets.
- Folklore Nordestino Festival - but if you miss the carnival, this is another festival that happens every August you can attend. It also portrays the thriving culture of the Brazilian people, which as a lot of music and dance.
