Zvartnots airport is located 12km from Yerevan, the capital of Armenia. Built in the mid 19 century, the airport not only serves the town Zvartnots, which is closest to it, it also serves the capital and the largest Armenian. It started out small controlling small flights within its radius and continued expanding over the years. Today it has been voted as the busiest airstrip in the country.
Having undergone major renovations to accommodate more flights, today the airport can comfortably handle thousands of tourists coming in from overseas to have a vacation. The terminal tries to make it easy for travelers to find their way to the city and they have organized a number of car rentals available for hire.
Tourist activities
There may not be much to do in Zvartnots however, we cannot forget it’s close to the capital city. With a car rental, you can easily cross between the two towns and even book a hotel room in either town. Yerevan is where most tourist attractions are found and it should be the destination town in your itinerary.
- The Three Monasteries of Yerevan - these three monasteries are all located in different locations, within the same locale, which offers a perfect road trip adventure in your car rental. The first building, Khor Virap has a lovely view of Mt. Ararat while the second one Gerghard is located within a picturesque canyon. The third one is the Garni temple which also has a nice surrounding to it.
- Forex Grocery Stores - this may be hard to believe, but you can exchange money practically anywhere in Yerevan. All you need is to look for the SAS stores which also function as a Forex exchange kiosk. Two things will make you smile; firs the exchange rates are pretty awesome and these kiosks operate 24hours.
- The Memorial Museum - this museum bears the sad tales that were narrated about the Armenian Genocide in the early 19century. The museum commemorates the Armenians who were killed in the war, over a million of them, and also acts as a symbol of peace as the East and West united to end the quarrel.
- Andranik Ozanian Statue - of the many freedom fighters who reclaimed back Armenia to its people, Andranik Ozanian is the one political figure that is never forgotten. He is celebrated for having played a major role of both activism and freedom fighting to win back Armenia.
Zvartnots is a great city to be in thanks to its proximity to the main city and also cheap accommodation option compared to the big city.
