The Car Rental Service at Bordeaux Train Station is located at the offices on the front part of the building. Getting there, however, can seem to be somewhat of a daunting task as you have to walk through underground tunnels and beneath platforms to get to the rental cars and driving out of there could be a slight nightmare for the inexperienced driver. However, this trouble pays itself off rather handsomely through the many benefits having your own car gives you. For the faint at heart though, there are smaller local Car Rental companies with offices located just across the street from the train station and many offer services, which are probably just as good. Bordeaux, after all, has some of the best Car Rental Firms in France.
Caution must be exercised though, some rentals are run by unscrupulous owners who rip customers off as well as trick them into getting deals, which later on, reveal that there are many hidden charges. Prior to booking your rental, therefore, one is advised to perform adequate research to equip you with sufficient information on the available car rental services.
Make sure you are familiar with the traffic regulations and rules of Bordeaux. It would be of importance, for instance, to note that even though the city is known the world over for having some of the best-tasting and most expensive wines; the city has very strict blood alcohol limits of 0.5 mg per ml. this is roughly a small bottle of alcohol and with vigilant traffic police, the fines are hefty.
Getting around with your own car gives you a much better experience allowing you to sight-see at your own pace and timing, however, when within the city centre, parking may be a little problematic with many people opting to park just outside the CBD and the taking a bus into the city centre. A small bus fare is charged but then again, this is better than wandering around the town in your car stranded with nowhere to park.
Outside the city, the attractions are many spanning from the Saint Emillion vineyard, to the quiet yet scenic Botanic Gardens to the Vinotherpie Spa. If you are here around the period between late June and early July though, make a point of attending Fete du Vin (Wine Festival) – Bordeaux’s key event. Just remember not to drink and drive you Car Hire rental unless you want to get charged in a foreign country; while on holiday.
